5 Things you can do if you have too many kids at your wedding banquet

Let's face it: you'll be much too busy primping, posing for photos and getting married to worry about whether or not every single guest is enjoying themselves. So why not plan ahead and find great ways to entertain guests and minimise potential wedding stress? Believe it or not, there are tons of unique and easy ways to engage family with kids during your special day and ensure that your wedding will be one to remember.

Photo Booth
Traditional, most wedding photographers roam the reception snapping candid shots to commemorate the event. Unfortunately for your guests, they rarely get to see the finished product.

Photography-related activities and favours are a huge trend on the wedding scene right now. Having a photo booth on your wedding event allows the guests, especially family with kids, to cherish this moment frozen in time, and you'll also have a photographic log of the many beloved people who attended your nuptials.

Provide silly props like feather boas, hats or sunglasses and watch the guests stage and informal battle over the best strip of photos.

Kids Activity Kits

Simply set up some kids tables and chairs, keep children occupied with some colouring or craft. Download and print some colouring sheets, print them out, buy some crayons and that's it! There are also pre-packed craft kids readily available in the market. If you need some to run some simple craft activities, you can enquire Mr Bottle's Kids Party or selected art schools for customised craft to suit your theme!

Kids Corner
Get Mr Bottle to entertain your kids with his magic show.
If a large number of children will be at your reception, consider incorporating a kids' corner or room. Book an extra function room and have a party organiser plan activities! A good kids corner will have different activities like shows, fringe activities and craftwork to occupy the kids of various age group for at least 2-3 hours. You can even have balls pools for the toddlers and bouncy castle for the younger kids.
Our bouncy castle is perfect for indoors and fits most function room. Only $300 for 4 hours, which is value for money!

To give the parents a peace of mind, you can ask the party planner to set up a IP camera so they can see their kids enjoying themselves in another room, and not worry what is happening to their children. You can also arrange with the hotel to serve kids buffet.

Food, Snack or Candy Bars

Banquet starting late? Food, snack or candy bars are a great way to fill kids' stomach since most banquet starts way past children's lunch or dinner time!
See our list of favourites :
1) Popcorn Bar
2) Veggie Bar
3) Chocolates and Biscuits Bar
4) Cupcakes Bar
5) Fruits Bar
6) Candy Buffet

We also love the idea of a DIY confetti bar, where guests can put together a colourful, custom bag of confetti to throw at your march-in / getaway.

Cartoon Screening

This is not a top choice for me (as a parent) personally but it does the job! It keeps the kids glue to the tube for a quite while; and adults can concentrate on the reception. The best cartoon to screen? Cartoon version of the Mr Bean; you don't have to switch on the volume for the kids to understand the story so you can still have this in the same room in a corner while the rest of the activities are going on.

Best Indoor Playground 9: The City

Cannot wait for Kidzania to open in Singapore? Visit The City instead! For younger children from 2 to 8 year-old, The City is an interactive learning playground located in Liang Court which allows kids to role play by taking on different occupations.

Wear the costume and take photos at each station!
Established in Singapore on 2012 as its first learning playground (winning 2 consecutive awards as the best indoor playground in Singapore), The City supports children’s imagination and creativity by giving them a platform to do so – enabling them to transform themselves into Cooks, Cashiers, Doctors, Nurses, Teachers, Policemen and many more while dressed in the respective uniforms and outfits. To further engage them, The City provides realistic first-of-its-kind environments and scenarios where kids can drive on mini streets, and explore small-scale real-life locations, such as the supermarket, cafe, beauty salon, medical clinic and more.

Cafe The City
I brought my kids there and was pleasantly surprised that my kids enjoyed themselves. My girl loves to shop at the supermarket and she can safely do her shopping without the fear of disturbing others shoppers. The spoilt cash register didn't lessen the fun for the kids.

Professionally calculating the total of our purchases.
There is no guided play at The City, unlike Kidzania. Instead parents are encouraged to play with their kids at the various 'stations'. For instance, we were given a shopping list so the children can look for the items at the supermarket. At other stations like the cafe, I simply order some food and let my kid figure out how she has to cook that with what is available. This can be a con to some parents who may just want to leave their kids to play on their own or are not too sure how to creatively play with their children at each station.

Sounds like a great place for parties isn't it?

As for Party Packages (Birthday or others) they have a standard package (with some free play) and one with guided activities, each at a different price per weekday/weekend as listed here.

Kids can drive along a track.
In addition, they offer Private Events (i.e. premium birthday parties, farewell parties, corporate events etc.) which are not listed in the website, those starts at $1500 for weekdays and $2000 for weekends/PH and include the following:

  • Exclusive use of The City Interactive Playground for a private party for 3 hours
  • Timeslots on weekends/PH are limited to 9am-1pm/4pm-7pm, no limits on weekdays

5 Simple DIY Ideas for Superhero Theme Party

5 Simple DIY Ideas for Superhero Theme Party

Superhero is one of the few themes for birthday parties which always has been popular for centuries! Be it for a 40-year-old adult or a 4-year-old kid, almost everyone can easily name you a few superheroes.

Here are some simple ideas which you can implement at your party yourself:

1) Decorations: Centre Spread Backdrop

Collect centre-spread of superheros in comic books, magazines and newspapers of your favourite superhero. You can even ask your mummy community to look out and keep for you and very soon, you will have more than you think!

At your party, use these centrespread as a banner and backdrop by creating a montage out of them!

2) Decorations: Cut old comic to use a bunting

Cut old comics and paste them on a ribbon to make a superhero bunting!
Photocopied comic book pages make great DIY bunting.

3) Activity: Weight lifting

Think of superhero, images of strong and powerful guys come into our heads. He has to be able to carry weights! As kids arrive at the party, you can prove their super power-ness by letting them carrying these dumbbells. Simply tie 2 balloons on a broom stick for your dumbbell.

4) Activity: Jump over the buildings

Decorate various cardboard boxes  of different size as buildings. Ask the kids to jump over them to see if they can fly over the buildings just like superheroes.

5) Food: Use old comic as food wrappers

Comic book page cones hold Cheetos or other crunchy things.

Use old comics and magazines of your superhero to wrap around your food items like mineral water bottles and cup sleeves. You can also roll it up into a cone and use it as a container for popcorn and chips.

For more ideas of Superheros theme party, see the Superhero party photos which we have organised!

5 Great DIY Ideas for Frozen Themed Party

5 Great DIY Ideas for Frozen Themed Party

Frozen parties are now the rage. For every 10 parties that we do, at least 1-2 is Frozen theme! This is not including the little princesses who are wearing Anna and Elsa's gown when they go their friend's party.

1) Customized Banner

Simply purchase coloured paper of preferred patterns and size, then write the message for your banner. Print pictures of Disney Frozen from the website to make it theme to your party. You can even include a photo of your girl in Princess Elsa or Princess Anna's Dress into the banner!

2) Let it Snow!

The adventures of MNMs

"Create" snow at your Frozen party by hanging strings of Styrofoam balls (or recycle by cutting small pieces from styrofoam used to pack furniture) of various sizes. Great backdrop for photos too!

3) Olaf Water Bottle

BayAreaParent
Olaf has melted and turned into water! :P
Use small water bottles which have a round top. Remove the label and use googly plastic eyes or simply use markers for the eyes, orange construction paper for the carrot nose, blue ribbon or pipe cleaners as the scarf and buttons or use markers for the buttons.
This can also be one of the party craft activities, in which the kids can decorate their own Olaf!
Give you a reason to serve water to kids instead of sugary syrup!

4) Do you want to Build a Snowman?

Use marshmallows and cut wholemeal bread to make Olaf's hands and hair.  You can add toothpicks to join the different parts to "build" their own snowman!
Great idea to keep the kids busy for a while, or for a goodie bag.

5) Olaf Ice-cream

Kids will definitely love this!
Disney Family
You can pre-scoop 2 scoops of vanilla ice-cream and keep them in the freezer. Kids can use pokey sticks for Olaf's hair and hands, small carrots sticks for the nose, brown M & M's or oreo cookies (cut) for the buttons!

The best part is they get to enjoy the Olaf they have made themselves... before they melt! Yummy!

Kids Friendly Restaurant: Starz Restaurant

Starz Restaurant

Hard Rock Hotel, Starz Restaurant, is located in a centralised location at Sentosa. This means you are minutes away from some of the region’s top attractions, such as Universal Studios Singapore® and S.E.A. Aquarium™, as well as Asia's flagship of the world-renowned ESPA.

International Buffet Dining

This colourful and fun restaurant offers buffet Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, with a wide variety of international and local cuisine, which is ideal for both locals and tourists.

Activities for Kids

On every 1st Sunday of the month, starting from 6 July 2014, a whole range of kids activities are specially lined-up for the little ones. The adults can watch them play and laugh while they indulge in the sumptuous spread.

Kids’ Activities
12.00pm – 1.30pmRegistration / Face Painting
12.00pm – 4.00pmSpecial Kids Buffet and Movie Screening at Hall of Fame
1.30pm – 2.30pmStory Telling / Games
3.00pm – 3.30pmMagic in a 'Bottle' by Mr Bottle

As a diner, I might not be aware that there are activities only on the 1st Sunday of the month, and might have mistaken and head down for a Sunday Brunch. Upon knowing there isn't any activities, I would get rather disappointed and probably decide to dine at another place before stepping in. I might even decide not to patronise the restaurant anymore to avoid disappointment again. I would rather the restaurant have activities on all Sundays, with 1 or 2 activities per time. In this way, regular diners can enjoy different activities on different visits. This will give them a refreshing and surprise feeing on every visit.

It is great to have activities for kids all lined-up for the Sunday Brunch. However, what about the adults? For those who just come in with their small family and does not come with their friends, it is unlikely that they will stay there for 4 hours. Hence, there is a tendency that the parents will want the kids to leave the restaurant. It is commonly seen where parents will "grab" their kids and stop them from what they are doing/ watching. To counter-act this, the restaurant should also have some activities for adults, e.g. Close-up Magic, Caricature & top-up a certain amount for Wine for the drinkers.

Handcarved Rubber Stamps Workshop

SiYin Crafts

Believed everyone have seen or used rubber stamps before, but how many of us have carved their own rubber stamps?

This is a new and creative craft. Kids definitely love to have a unique symbol, be it a cartoon character, wordings or picture to represent themselves. Adults can get this as a fun sign-off method. Even teachers can use this to chop on his/her students work. Companies can even think of DIY their own company stamps instead of getting someone to make.

The rubber stamp is very durable, so one does not have to worry the picture gets fade off after some time.

It is great for family bonding! Parents can help their children with the carving part. Kids are not being left out too! They can help with the safer task like tracing, image transfer, cleaning of stamp surface, test printing and mounting of carved stamp to wooden block.

This is perfect for School Holiday Workshop, Birthday Party and Bring Your Kids to Work event. Basic and Beginner Rubber Stamp Making Workshops are available. Alternatively, you can also purchase the ready-made stamps.

Themed Birthday Party 1

Angry Bird Themed Birthday Party

Themed Birthday Party is very widespread since the past few years. The themes changes according to the trend. Hence kids nowadays usually will have a different theme for their birthday party every year. It's pretty common that way 6 months before their birthday, the kid would have Already Decided on the theme for his/her own birthday!

In this post, we shall share some ideas for Angry Bird Themed Birthday Party.

1) Decorations

If you have stage performance/s for your party, Stage Decorations will be great when taking photos. Like the Customized Banner, Angry Pig Shooting, Tree and Bushes at the Stage.

Other decorations also include Angry Bird Sling Shot Column, Angry Bird Centrepiece and Hanging Angry Birds and sticking Angry Pigs around the room.

You can even customize the helium balloons to Angry Bird theme. By providing stickers in which children can paste it's hair, eye brown, eyes & beak. Easy yet creative!

2) Entertainment

Mr Bottle has a customized Angry Bird Magic Show.

Other than our standard Interactive Games, Mr Bottle's Kids Party can also customize the games to Angry Bird theme!

Include Angry Bird Shooting, Angry Bird Basketball & Angry Bird Golf Carnival Games to your party.

The drawing paper as well as the drawing itself can be customize to Angry Bird theme too.

Renting or even buying Angry Bird mascots and having them taking care at each station can be a great idea!

f) Pinata
Not only can you get an Angry Bird design piñata, you can also put Angry Bird related stuff into it. E.g. Angry Bird cupcake rings, blowout, stickers, stick-on tattoo, pencils, erasers, sharpener, paper clips etc.

3) Food and Cake

Change the drink bottle & food labels to Angry Bird theme is one idea you can consider. Angry Bird-shaped candies and cake is another suggestion for this theme.

BEST Indoor Playground 7

Hockey Pokey

Different from other indoor playground, Hockey Pokey does not have climbs, slides and ball pools. It has many different toys as well as small tricycles, bikes etc. Ideal for kids as young as 6 months old!

Temperature checks is taken and hand sanitizer is used for everyone before entering, including adults. Any sick child/ adult is not allowed in the playground. This is to ensure the well-being of everyone. This is also a very good way of inculcating hygiene to the kids, where most other indoor playgrounds and even some pre-schools do not practice that.

To further improve on that, Hockey Pokey can consider to practice a short period, e.g. 30-min closure in the middle of the day, to sanitize the playground.

Birthday Party Packages
Hockey Pokey has very appealing themes to select from. Clients can even request for those themes not in the list. Each and every item is specially customized to the theme, from the plates, goodie bags, birthday cake, bottled drinks, food labels, as well as the names of the food and name of birthday kid! There's also a variety of add-ons: food (for adults & themed dessert table), piñata (in-house/ themed), decorations to fringe activities (Balloon Sculpting & Face Painting). The themed parties are indeed very impressive!

Clients can even play a montage of their birthday child in the party room. How wonderful is that!
