Yup, it's all gone! I told you they are vanishing...
As the cafe's name 'Bricks N Cubes', one can easily relate to Lego. It is located at The Cathay, accessible to all. Not only children are fascinated by Lego, many adults build and collect Legos. The bricks we see today was launched in 1958, which is more than half a century. Surprisingly, this 'toy' never loss its appeal even as the world develops. With the Lego Movie, LEGOLAND in Malaysia, I guessed the popularity of Lego has definitely increased somewhat.
There are many interesting things inside the restaurant, including the QR Code, Calendar & Tips Box that are made using Lego. To make it more fun, they can customize the tables and sofa seats to Lego bricks!
Ipads with Lego games and a kids corner with Legos and television will be definitely be able to meet the interest of different kids, while the adults can relax and enjoy cakes from Gobi and coffee from Indonesia.
We were invited to a kid's birthday party for their entertainment. It seems that the restaurant is experiencing shortage of staff (as with many restaurants in Singapore), as I overhead the staff told a walk-in customer that other than the party, diners have to wait for 1 hour for the food to be served.
Overall, Bricks N Cubes is a cosy and interesting café for families.
Opening Hours:
Sun – Thurs: 12pm – 11pm Fri & Sat: 12pm – 12am Closed on selected public holidays

Our Science Show was launched in 2005 and produced exclusively for Mr Bottle's Kids Party. Here is our latest promotion video for the performance. We selected a few acts to include in this video! Enjoy!
How did it come about?
I was reading this article from an international magic magazine and a magician from New York , who has this Science character, contributed some of his ideas. I felt the concept are really creative but mostly magic with some pseudo-explanation. There was a Mad Science around then (not in Singapore then from what I understand). In fact, I did visit and watch a show by the Mad Science in Genting and my friend who was in charge of franchising them in Singapore suggested me to take it up. I like Mad Science but since our strength is in production, we wanted to create something different, something unique. Mad Science focus a lot on science and I feel that the entertainment portion may be lacking a little. (For a good reason, this is a franchise so it must be easily done by anyone.)
Hence, I started with a character needed for the show: He is a smart scientist, invents a lot of things but is a little clumsy so his 'inventions' do not always work as planned (to create the comic effect). Real scientific principles must be taught so kids can learn the right thing. I want to keep the magic element in the show because adults and kids alike are always amaze by that. He is Professor Messy!
Why Messy?
I envision Professor Messy's table to be always messy since he is always thinking of new inventions, writing down new ideas, pretty much like my table most of the time! Messy is a shadow of my creative self, since I like creating new things, thinking of new ideas; like an excited kid working on 20 things at the same time.
How long did it take to produce it?
I had a lot of ideas then. So I wrote them down. Some worked, some didn't. I was collecting and holding on to the ideas for probably around a year then. Then it took another 1 year before we realise the ideas into the actual show.
The show is still evolving. During my recent trip to China, I had a lot of free time in between shows. The environment inspired me to conceptualise a lot of new ideas and now I have more than enough to create a 2nd show!
Who are Science Show suitable for?
We have done for the show for kids as young as 4 years old. Usually we recommend the performance for kids 7 years old and older but have 'customise' it for younger children.
What are the amazing things which has happened when you perform the Science Show?
One amazing thing that happened was that we had children who hated science going "oh no" before the show started to "I love Science" after the show! We also had adults coming up to us to say they enjoy and learnt something.
Where are the Science Show suitable for?
We have been booked for all kinds of events:
Cannot wait for Kidzania to open in Singapore? Visit The City instead! For younger children from 2 to 8 year-old, The City is an interactive learning playground located in Liang Court which allows kids to role play by taking on different occupations.
Wear the costume and take photos at each station!
Established
in Singapore on 2012 as its first learning playground (winning 2 consecutive
awards as the best indoor playground in Singapore), The City supports children’s imagination and creativity by
giving them a platform to do so – enabling them to transform themselves into
Cooks, Cashiers, Doctors, Nurses, Teachers, Policemen and many more while
dressed in the respective uniforms and outfits. To further engage them, The
City provides realistic first-of-its-kind environments and scenarios where kids
can drive on mini streets, and explore small-scale real-life locations, such as
the supermarket, cafe, beauty salon, medical clinic and more.
Cafe The City
I brought my kids there and was pleasantly surprised that my kids enjoyed themselves. My girl loves to shop at the supermarket and she can safely do her shopping without the fear of disturbing others shoppers. The spoilt cash register didn't lessen the fun for the kids.
.
Professionally calculating the total of our purchases.
There is no guided play at The City, unlike Kidzania. Instead parents are encouraged to play with their kids at the various 'stations'. For instance, we were given a shopping list so the children can look for the items at the supermarket. At other stations like the cafe, I simply order some food and let my kid figure out how she has to cook that with what is available. This can be a con to some parents who may just want to leave their kids to play on their own or are not too sure how to creatively play with their children at each station.
Sounds like a great place for parties isn't it?

Superhero is one of the few themes for birthday parties which always has been popular for centuries! Be it for a 40-year-old adult or a 4-year-old kid, almost everyone can easily name you a few superheroes. Here are some simple ideas which you can implement at your party yourself:
1) Decorations: Centre Spread Backdrop
Collect centre-spread of superheros in comic books, magazines and newspapers of your favourite superhero. You can even ask your mummy community to look out and keep for you and very soon, you will have more than you think!
At your party, use these centrespread as a banner and backdrop by creating a montage out of them! 2) Decorations: Cut old comic to use a bunting
Cut old comics and paste them on a ribbon to make a superhero bunting!
Think of superhero, images of strong and powerful guys come into our heads. He has to be able to carry weights! As kids arrive at the party, you can prove their super power-ness by letting them carrying these dumbbells. Simply tie 2 balloons on a broom stick for your dumbbell.
4) Activity: Jump over the buildings
Decorate various cardboard boxes of different size as buildings. Ask the kids to jump over them to see if they can fly over the buildings just like superheroes.
Use old comics and magazines of your superhero to wrap around your food items like mineral water bottles and cup sleeves. You can also roll it up into a cone and use it as a container for popcorn and chips.
For more ideas of Superheros theme party, see the Superhero party photos which we have organised!
Book our theme balloon sculpting in which we make spiderman, batman and other superheros for the kids! Paint all the kids like superheros with our facepainting!
Frozen parties are now the rage. For every 10 parties that we do, at least 1-2 is Frozen theme! This is not including the little princesses who are wearing Anna and Elsa's gown when they go their friend's party.
1) Customized Banner
Simply purchase coloured paper of preferred patterns and size, then write the message for your banner. Print pictures of Disney Frozen from the website to make it theme to your party. You can even include a photo of your girl in Princess Elsa or Princess Anna's Dress into the banner!
"Create" snow at your Frozen party by hanging strings of Styrofoam balls (or recycle by cutting small pieces from styrofoam used to pack furniture) of various sizes. Great backdrop for photos too!
Use small water bottles which have a round top. Remove the label and use googly plastic eyes or simply use markers for the eyes, orange construction paper for the carrot nose, blue ribbon or pipe cleaners as the scarf and buttons or use markers for the buttons.
This can also be one of the party craft activities, in which the kids can decorate their own Olaf!
Give you a reason to serve water to kids instead of sugary syrup!
4) Do you want to Build a Snowman?
Use marshmallows and cut wholemeal bread to make Olaf's hands and hair. You can add toothpicks to join the different parts to "build" their own snowman!
Great idea to keep the kids busy for a while, or for a goodie bag.
You can pre-scoop 2 scoops of vanilla ice-cream and keep them in the freezer. Kids can use pokey sticks for Olaf's hair and hands, small carrots sticks for the nose, brown M & M's or oreo cookies (cut) for the buttons!
The best part is they get to enjoy the Olaf they have made themselves... before they melt! Yummy!
Believed everyone have seen or used rubber stamps before, but how many of us have carved their own rubber stamps?
This is a new and creative craft. Kids definitely love to have a unique symbol, be it a cartoon character, wordings or picture to represent themselves. Adults can get this as a fun sign-off method. Even teachers can use this to chop on his/her students work. Companies can even think of DIY their own company stamps instead of getting someone to make.
The rubber stamp is very durable, so one does not have to worry the picture gets fade off after some time.
It is great for family bonding! Parents can help their children with the carving part. Kids are not being left out too! They can help with the safer task like tracing, image transfer, cleaning of stamp surface, test printing and mounting of carved stamp to wooden block.
This is perfect for School Holiday Workshop, Birthday Party and Bring Your Kids to Work event. Basic and Beginner Rubber Stamp Making Workshops are available. Alternatively, you can also purchase the ready-made stamps.
What is Stuttgart? Stuttgart is the capital of the state of Baden-Wurttemberg, in the southwest Germany. One uniqueness of S-Cafe is the showcase of art, culture & innovation of Stuttgart and the Black Forest. Slow down your foot steps to take some time to experience the cuckoo clock wall, art gallery and wine vault.
Other than the ground floor, S-Cafe also provides event space for rental, including Mezzanine and Private Room.
Thinking that S-Cafe is only suitable for adults but not kids? Wrong! S-Cafe is also an ideal venue to hold your kids party. The cafe is spacious and have different parts that caters to different party sizes. When I first stepped into the Cafe, it gives me a mystic garden kind of feeling. It even comes with a 'flowing river'. So if you are having a Alice in Wonderland, Robin Hood or forest theme party, I think the venue will be ideal! (Add some balloon animals and microfoils for the forest theme.) Your guests will definitely enjoy the authentic German food on the buffet spread, which is very uniquefor a birthday party! Book some children entertainment and the adults can have their own relaxing time; drinking S-Cafe's signature beers!
Smacked right in the city, with Bugis and Bencoolen MRT just a stone's throw away, it is convenient for guests who don't drive. Ample parking lots are also available at the HDB carpark at Queens Street. I guess the only con is that you do have to pay a separate charge for the use of the venue space on top of food. If S-cafe can do away with that, then I am sure that it will be a very popular place for birthday parties!
In summary, S-cafe is definitely a great place for birthday parties and families. Drop by and have a meal, they even provide tablemat with kids activities to occupy your children while waiting for the food to come! Here's some details.

by Kien Although most party companies usually provides this service free of charge, I decided to put this out online so everyone can do the cake cutting ceremony themselves without sweat.
But first, I think we have to discuss the objective! It's a must for every birthday party! Cake cutting ceremony is a great time to take photos with your guests and naturally, you want to freeze this special moment with your cameras, especially with your family. 1. Schedule – Most of the cake cutting is done towards the end of the parties but I have seen a few parties doing it at the beginning. There is no right or wrong but I guess you have a find a suitable schedule, when the most important guests are here or right after the magic show when you have most of the guests attention.
2. Preparing the cake
Find a place to take the photo. It can be a nice backdrop that you already decorated. (Not against the light if you have glass walls)
Take the cake out of the box first (duh!)
Put the candles on the cake
Some cakes will have this plastic transparent thing covering the side of the cake. Remove that.
Have the lighter ready with you. (But do not light the candles yet.)
Put the knife on the table beside the cake. Remove it from the plastic cover first. (Most cake shops will provide a safe plastic knife.)
For 2D cakes, prop the cake plate up with a plate or small bowl underneath. Face the cake in such a way that it shows the words the right up way when the photo is taken.
Have the plates and forks ready
Want everyone to see your 2D cake? Prop it up with a small bowl or plate so your guests can see it!
3. Birthday Kid – Get the birthday kid to stand behind the cake. Take a few photos of the cake with the kid alone. (if there is a chance!)
4. Guests – Some may want the family to be in the photos, and some may prefer to have the kid guests to be in the photo since it’s the child’s birthday. Getting all the kids to stand properly for the photo taking is an art. Kids usually crowd in the front or side where they have the best view of the cake. If you use a long table, it is easier to line them up at the table; behind the cake. 5. Getting the kids to smile – I usually like a few photos before I light up the candles. Because once the candles are lit, the time to take photos is short especially with certain fancy candles. You can get them to shout the birthday child’s name or simply ‘cheese’ at the count of 3. (So everyone says it at the same time!) Remember to ask them to look at the camera. You can ask them to do certain actions like hooray, yay, funny faces, etc.
6. Light the candles – I recently found some wind-free lighters which is great for birthday candle lighting! If you use a normal lighter, it tends to get too hot after a while. Using a spare candle to light the others may get wax all over the cake. After the candles are lit, I get them to pose for a few more photos. 7. Singing the Song – I count to three so everyone starts the song at the same time. In school, kids are usually taught different versions (Eg. Mandarin) I may let the kids take control of the different versions they want to see.
8. Blowing the candles – I may remind the kids that ‘it’s ______ birthday today, so let ______ blow the candle. Ask him to make a wish first. (Great photo opportunity when the kid shuts his eyes for this.) Blow the candle. Your camera should snap non-stop during this step. 9. Cut the cake – Get the kid to cut the cake while smiling at the camera.
10. More photos? – There may be guests who want to take photos with the birthday child and family at this point of time too.
11. Serve the cake – That’s it! Ask the kids to queue up while you serve them the cake. I think it will be great to ask the birthday kid to serve the cake too and thank the guests at the same time.
Kien is a psychologist by training and decided to put what he has learnt to good use by performing magic, since graduating from NUS and NTU about 10 years ago. He changes into Mr Bottle when he is with kids and has been specialising in children magic for the past 14 years. He has since helped host about 2138 cake cutting ceremonies since he started his trade. (He think he should advance to start doing weddings ROM too.)He can find out more about his magic shows at www.magician.com.sg or email him for a chat at enquiry@magician.com.sg
Mr. Bottle's Premium Goodie Box - contains a rabbit soft toy, customised chocolate and customised sweets! Suitable for birthday parties and baby showers!
I would like to congratulate the team who helped to "conjure" the party to great success. I have got comments from friends who told me that it was the best party which they have attended. The balloon artist had stayed back beyond his 1 hr duration to make sure all requests were entertained. Mr Bottle warms up and mingle with the crowd before his magic show with little tricks and jokes. Both of them had showed great professionlism and passion as well as genuine interest in their audience. Definitely a great experience! Yours Sincerely, Mrs Tay
You can be green when attending birthday parties too. Here's some suggestions:
RSVP. This helps the host know how many guests are coming and book food enough for their guests
Ask the host if there's anything that they need, instead of buying items that they may not need.
Minimise wrapping or even go without the wrapping! You can also use old magazine papers to wrap and it can turn out to be very artistic!
Use only 1 set of utensils during the party if disposable are used. You can label your cup. Use either the spoon or fork for the food. Do you really need the straw?
Throw the invites into the recycling bins, which can be found in almost every estate.
Thank you for making my girl's 7th birthday party a great success. The kids had a rolling good time. I was surprised that the sister of my girl's friend who is always very shy became the first one to volunteer to help in your magic act. The adults enjoyed themselves as much as the kids. Many of the parents present commented after the party that "the magician is good!".
My girl hugged me before she went to bed that night and thanked me for the wonderful party I planned. She was telling me how much fun she had during magic time. Thank you for giving her the due attention. She also enjoyed the games by your games master who is very good with the kids and she managed to get almost all the kids to participate in the games. There was so much laughter!
Thank you once again for helping me make my girl's 7th birthday party a very memorable one.
