5 Things you want to know about Professor Messy's Science Show

Our Science Show was launched in 2005 and produced exclusively for Mr Bottle's Kids Party. Here is our latest promotion video for the performance. We selected a few acts to include in this video! Enjoy!

How did it come about?
I was reading this article from an international magic magazine and a magician from New York , who has this Science character, contributed some of his ideas. I felt the concept are really creative but mostly magic with some pseudo-explanation. There was a Mad Science around then (not in Singapore then from what I understand). In fact, I did visit and watch a show by the Mad Science in Genting and my friend who was in charge of franchising them in Singapore suggested me to take it up. I like Mad Science but since our strength is in production, we wanted to create something different, something unique. Mad Science focus a lot on science and I feel that the entertainment portion may be lacking a little. (For a good reason, this is a franchise so it must be easily done by anyone.)

Hence, I started with a character needed for the show: He is a smart scientist, invents a lot of things but is a little clumsy so his 'inventions' do not always work as planned (to create the comic effect). Real scientific principles must be taught so kids can learn the right thing. I want to keep the magic element in the show because adults and kids alike are always amaze by that. He is Professor Messy!

Why Messy?
I envision Professor Messy's table to be always messy since he is always thinking of new inventions, writing down new ideas, pretty much like my table most of the time! Messy is a shadow of my creative self, since I like creating new things, thinking of new ideas; like an excited kid working on 20 things at the same time.

How long did it take to produce it?
I had a lot of ideas then. So I wrote them down. Some worked, some didn't. I was collecting and holding on to the ideas for probably around a year then. Then it took another 1 year before we realise the ideas into the actual show.

The show is still evolving. During my recent trip to China, I had a lot of free time in between shows. The environment inspired me to conceptualise a lot of new ideas and now I have more than enough to create a 2nd show!

Who are Science Show suitable for?
We have done for the show for kids as young as 4 years old. Usually we recommend the performance for kids 7 years old and older but have 'customise' it for younger children.

What are the amazing things which has happened when you perform the Science Show?
One amazing thing that happened was that we had children who hated science going "oh no" before the show started to "I love Science" after the show! We also had adults coming up to us to say they enjoy and learnt something.

Where are the Science Show suitable for?
We have been booked for all kinds of events:
  • Birthday Parties
  • Shopping Malls
  • School Shows / Events
  • Family Days
  • Bring your Kids to Work Day

Party Inspirations: "Fit for the Future"

Mr Bottle had the honour of organizing Bloomberg's Bring Your Kids to Work Day 2011 to the theme of "FIT FOR THE FUTURE"!!! (insert epic music.) Yes indeed, the 50 children we hosted at Bloomberg certainly proved that they were fit for the future - just carry on reading for the highlights of the day.
What's a party without tons and tons of balloons to dress up the venue? For this "Fit for the Future" theme, we specially picked black and silver balloons as part of the venue decorations. 2 silver arches were made to welcome the children to their parents' office - one placed at the front desk, and the other at the entrance of the function room.

Not only did the balloons serve to transform the function room into a children's party haven, the children also showed their creativity through inventing a new game involving the balloons - who can collect the most balloons. Balloon decorations are always a sure winner at any event. Children who were early were entertained by the facepainting and balloon sculpturing stations. See the delightful creations below:

How can a "Fit For the Future" themed party go without testing the fitness abilities of the children - that's exactly what Mr Bottle did! Through carnival games like Basketball and Ring Toss, as well as original interactive games with an exercise theme, the fitness skills of the children were tested. Many of the children walked away with prizes customized to Bloomberg's request, proving that they were fit for the future.

No Mr Bottle's party is complete without a performance of our original productions. Professor Messy thoroughly entertained the children with his Science Show, teaching them the wonders that can be produced through understanding some simple scientific principles. At the end of the day, Mr Bottle closed the party with a sampling of magic from his bag of tricks, captivating all children and adults who were present.
You can also see the balloon arch in the background of the photo above.

Less scientifically and athletically inclined children could also show off their skills through the Mr Bottle's colouring activity sheets provided, as well as the Bloomberg Art Competition which we provided for as well. Here are some of the masterpieces created.

Mr Bottle tailored made this event specially to the needs of the Bloomberg team and we could do the same for your company, or your child's birthday party too! We customized the treasure hunt portion of the day as well as scheduled a segment for the Bloomberg team to do their thing. At the end of the day, all the kids went home with the prizes won at the games as well as our Mr Bottle's goodie boxes! Just let us know what you'd like to include in your party and you could host an original Mr Bottle's party too! Compliments for Prof Messy and friends

I would like to thank you for the very professional performance by "professor messy" and the very well organized science workshop!

I have to admit I thought the show is very expensive - but the delivery was of very high standards! I also appreciated the fact the performers arrived well in advance to make sure the set up is done on time.

Your teams were very friendly, and made sure the kids had a lot of fun!

I would definitely recommend you to my friends!!!

With warmest regards,

Praises for Prof Messy!

We had Prof Messy at our party last Saturday. He turned up earlier to ensure the place is right and proper for his show. The 12 kids were totally thrilled, although my daughter Ariel has watched him twice. Ariel had a very naughty friend, a boy who would rebutt everything Prof Messy said. But he was cool and professional and did not show he was annoyed with the boy's numerous questions and remarks.

I will certainly recommend this to my friends. If you have more and different tricks, we will be happy to have you over again.

Best regards,
Angeline Tan
